Coffee Brewing Methods: Ways to Make the Perfect Cup

Posted on June 18, 2025

There’s something special about making coffee at home. Be it part of your morning ritual or your afternoon pick-me-up, the way you brew it can seriously change the flavour, strength, and vibe of your cup.

But with so many options out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Do you go classic French press? Try a pour-over? Bust out the espresso machine? There’s no one “right” way to brew coffee at home. It just really depends on what works for you.

So, if you’re exploring the different ways to brew coffee or just want to level up your current setup, here’s a breakdown of some of the most popular (and most delicious) methods. Plus, we’ll throw in a few tips on beans, gear, and how to make coffee that’s actually worth waking up for.

1. French Press

A fan favourite way to brew coffee, and for a good reason. French press coffee is full-bodied, rich, and simple to make. Add coarse-ground beans, pour in hot water, steep, and press.

It’s forgiving, doesn’t need fancy equipment, and works great with medium to dark roasts. Just make sure your beans are fresh (psst, we recommend reading up on how to store coffee beans if you’re stocking up).

2. Pour Over (V60, Chemex, etc.)

If you like your coffee clean, bright, and a bit of a ritual, pour-over is for you. It’s all about control. You pour hot water over fresh grounds in slow circles, letting the flavour bloom.

It takes a bit more time and precision, but the payoff is huge, especially with single origin beans. Use a gooseneck kettle for best results and enjoy the process as much as the cup.

3. Espresso Machine

For those who like their coffee strong and smooth, espresso delivers big flavour in a small dose. You’ll need a machine (and a bit of practice), but once you’ve got it down, you can make everything from straight shots to lattes and flat whites.

Espresso pairs beautifully with our coffee blends, especially when you want that perfect café-at-home moment.

4. AeroPress

Think of the AeroPress as the fun, fast, and portable option. It uses pressure to extract bold flavour, and you can tweak the recipe to your liking. Want it strong like espresso? You got it. Prefer a smooth filter-style cup? Easy.

It’s compact, great for travel, and surprisingly versatile. If you’re new to brewing, this is a great place to start experimenting.

5. Drip Coffee (Machine or Manual)

If you grew up with the classic drip machine humming in the background, you know the comfort of a good batch brew. It’s convenient and consistent. Which is deal if you're making coffee for more than one person.

We also offer coffee drip bags that bring that same ease without the bulky machine. Just pour, steep, sip. Perfect for work, travel, or lazy mornings.

6. Cold Brew

Cold brew is brewed slow and served chilled, making it smooth, low in acidity, and super refreshing. Coarse-ground beans steep in cold water for 12 to 24 hours, then get filtered for a clean, mellow flavour.

It’s perfect for summer or anyone who prefers a gentler cup. Just remember, cold brew needs time. So, plan ahead.

Choose What Works for You

There’s no wrong way to make coffee, only what fits your taste, your tools, and your routine. Try a few methods, mix things up, and find your favourites.

Need beans to get started? You can order coffee beans online, or if you’re brewing in bulk, we are your trusted coffee beans wholesale supplier.
